How to translate a PDF or an image

1. Click Choose a PDF or an image and pick a PDF of up to 5 pages and 3 MB, or a PNG, JPEG or WebP image of up to 7 MB.
2. Under Translate into, pick the language you want to read it in. Over 100 languages are available.
3. Click Translate file. The translation appears on the page, and Download .txt saves it as a text file.

What the tool does with a file

For a PDF, the tool first counts the pages and checks the text that can be selected, on its own server, and then sends the document to an AI translation engine in one pass. The result is checked against the original: if a large part of the document is missing from it, nothing is shown, because a partial translation that nobody can tell is partial is worse than none. In an image, such as a sign, a menu or a screenshot, the text is read from the picture and translated; a picture with no readable text is reported as such.

Privacy

There is no account and no sign-up, so nothing ties a document to you. The file is sent to our AI translation provider for this one translation, and Pigona does not keep it: while a larger upload is being received, the server may hold it briefly in a temporary file that is deleted when the request ends, and Pigona's logs never record its contents or its file name. The provider may keep it for up to 30 days solely to check for abuse. To enforce the one free translation and the limit on failed attempts, the tool keeps your IP address in server memory, used only for these two limits: for up to 30 days after a free translation, and for up to 24 hours after a failed attempt. What it cannot do

• Scanned PDFs: if the pages are pictures rather than text, there is nothing to read out of them. A photo or screenshot of one page works as an image upload.
• Layout: the result is plain text, not a rebuilt PDF or image with the original design.
• Long documents: up to 5 pages here. Pigona in Discord reads longer PDFs, up to 20 pages; a text-dense one can reach its text limit sooner.
• More than one file: each visitor has one free translation.
